READING: HMH Into Reading Module 4: Once Upon a Time Students will learn that stories can convey messages to readers. Important lessons can be learned from the characters, and just like real people, characters in stories make mistakes and learn from what they do wrong. Readers can learn valuable lessons from the actions of these characters.

WRITING: Module 4: Imaginative Story/Narrative Sudents will write a narrative that includes a problem and solution, which are part of the plot. Students will show how characters in their story face a problem, usually near the beginning of a story. The story continues until the characters find a solution to the problem.

PHONICS: From Phonics to Reading Students will learn Long a, Open Syllables and Long e.

Math

MATH: Envisions Topic 5: Subtract Within 100 Using Strategies Topic 5 focuses on subtraction within 100 using strategies that employ a hundred chart, an open number line, breaking numbers apart and compensation. Topic 6: Fluently Subtract Within 100 Topic 6 focuses on developing computational fluency in subtraction within 100 by using understanding of place value, properties of operations, mental math and the partial-differences strategy.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Rights, Rules and Responsibilities Students are learning about government, democracy and why rules and laws are important.

SCIENCE: Properties of Materials Students will become glue engineers and conduct hands on investigations where they learn to design mixtures for different purposes.
