Instructional Focus: Students will engage in foundational skills to identify central ideas, use supporting details in various texts (informational and fictional texts)

These skills will allow students to:

• decode unfamiliar words in text
• identify point of view
• compare and contrast text using details (text structure)
• access content and academic language

Teachers will use explicit modeling and targeted small group instruction, differentiating strategies and materials to strengthen students' knowledge and understanding according to their individual learning needs.
